OpenTrust Software Platform Strengthens Alstom Transport’s Security Infrastructure |
The smart card-based solution for access control has been deployed by Alstom Transport in less than three months. Code name: SESAM
London October 16th 2007 – Alstom, world leader in energy and transport sectors, has selected OpenTrust’s flagship trust infrastructure for its unified access control project based on smart cards. The solution, which took less than three months to deploy, has already been used to format and activate 1500 badges with longer-term plans to deploy several tens of thousands of badges.
OpenTrust PKI and SCM, combined with a company repository, were chosen
as a user-friendly solution designed to enforce security of Alstom
Transport headquarters.
Nikk Gilbert IT Security Director for Alstom Transport remarked:
"Choosing an organization like OpenTrust to help us implement our SESAM
project was a big factor in its success. Good communication and
excellent project management were key, as well as their expertise in
past PKI deployments.”
OpenTrust implemented a centralized architecture based on the OpenTrust
platform composed of OpenTrust SCM (smart card management) and
OpenTrust PKI (certificate and key management), associated with Aladdin
tokens. Remote management of these tokens, distributed worldwide, is
therefore possible.
Having adapted the access control to the building, the security infrastructure has been operational since June 2007 allowing:
-
Physical access control to the building via badges
- Strong authentication
- Migration of VPN clients: use of smart cards
- Management of services via smart card (eg. canteen payments)
- WiFi to be secured using smart cards
Additional functions were then introduced in a second phase:
-
SSO (Single Sign On)
- Data encyption
- Email protection
OpenTrust provides all departments of Alston Transport with a secure infrastructure that is technically rich and complete.
