New Challenges for CIOs
CIOs today face new and complex challenges: Information Systems need to be adaptable to meet changing business requirements, private networks are migrating to the Internet and electronic transactions must be securely implemented in order to boost productivity and mitigate risk. As always, IT budgets also demand more is done with less:
  • How do we ensure that our information system is flexible and supports Business Transformation (restructuring, acquisitions, new solutions) whilst continuing to meet constantly evolving security requirements?
  • How can we achieve a better balance between Security requirements and usability of systems without disrupting business processes?
  • How do we ensure both security and availability when networks are increasingly open to the internet?
  • How do we securely open up our information system to employees, customers, and suppliers as well as to partners who may also be competitors?
  • How do we manage and guarantee the security of remote connections to our information system so that employees on business trips or working from home can access information and at the same time maintain ease of use for occasional users?
  • How can we deliver multi channel access and manage new devices outside of our control (PDAs, smart phones, home computers, etc.)?
  • How do we attract and retain key employees if, due to safety and security issues, we cannot provide them with a working environment that embraces the “new” technologies (Web 2.0, Skype, Wi-Fi etc.) they use in their homes everyday ?
  • Why, when having invested vast sums of money in ERP systems such as SAP or Oracle, are we still sending paper invoices and order forms by post or fax to other ERP users?
